17 Sep Case Study: Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
The Client: DJ Motors Group
With over 100 employees, state-of-the-art service centres and Australia’s most loved and trusted car brands, DJ Motors represents the pinnacle of the automotive retail industry.
The Challenge
On a Thursday evening, 15 March 2018, a water main burst outside DJ Motors headquarters sending between 2.5 and 3 megalitres of water through the building, taking out the main communications room containing the server and phone infrastructure for all six sites across the CBD. The building remains unusable for the foreseeable future.
The Goal
The first goal was to keep the business running, then restore all systems back to full functionality. The equipment in the building was not functional so recovery to an alternate location would be required.
How?
Intuit Technologies responded immediately that evening (after hours) to begin restoring service. A three-stage approach was undertaken. Whilst the clean-up phase was underway, the planning and execution for the continuity and recovery phases were being worked on.
Clean Up
Inuit Technologies provided staff on the ground to assist with clean up and recovery of any equipment that could be salvaged.
“Because they know our business so well they were able to come up with a course of action and basically started getting people in working on the problem whilst the water was still coming into the building”
James Johns, Executive Director – DJ Motors
Business Continuity
The most immediate requirement was to keep the DJ Motors doors open. This was achieved by recovering the DJ Motors server systems into IntuitCloud, our state-of-the-art data centre. Critical systems were recovered within one business day, allowing branch offices to function over the weekend without a single transaction being lost.
Disaster Recovery
Intuit Technologies worked with their partner, Jettech, to build a high-speed microwave network to replace the existing ISDN network. Phone and the remaining computer-based systems were fully restored and operational within three business days.
The Outcome
DJ Motors suffered a major, business impacting disaster not of their own making. Within one business day the branch offices were operational, within three business days the entire system had been recovered to a secure, state-of-the-art multi-site data centre. All this without a single lost transaction!
